Shaftesbury Young People has a long and proud history of supporting young people in need since we were formed as Shaftesbury Homes and Arethusa in 1843.

Since then the charity, like the rest of the world, has undergone a lot of changes moving from ragged schools, to naval training ships, and from here to residential children’s homes and now Education Services, the Siblings United project and our Arethusa Venture Centre. Despite these changes our mission and the focus of our work has always remained the same – to improve the lives of the most vulnerable young people in our society.
