Improving outcomes in mainstream education


We provide education support for children at risk of exclusion.
Since 2000, our award winning Education Support Team has enabled young people in residential settings to return to mainstream school and take positive steps on the way to achieving their full potential.

All trained teachers, the team of Education Advisors provide robust advocacy and support to help children

  • access mainstream school
  • maintain their place
  • complete coursework and
  • sit public examinations

Of the children in our residential care

  • up to 50% arrive with no school place
  • many have missed schooling for long periods
  • may arrive December/January of year 11

Achieving Demonstrable Outcomes


Young people who go through the programme have:

  • Improved school attendance
  • Improved behaviour and engagement in learning
  • Fewer exclusions
  • Raised aspirations and self esteem
  • Completion of GCSE coursework by deadlines
  • Improved SATS outcomes
  • Improved GCSE outcomes
  • Progression to Further Education
  • Better engagement of parents/families
  • In partnership with the school and the young person, we agree a support package to enable the child to achieve.


The service provides focused, intensive, individually tailored support in the classroom and at home.

The support package includes



  • An Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  • Mentoring
  • Supporting parents to engage in their child's education
  • Exclusions challenged
  • Intensive, focused tuition
  • Preparation for SATs in year 9 and GCSEs in year 11, including holiday revision programmes
  • Extra-curricular activities with eg poetry, theatre, motivational speakers
  • Rewards for attendance, completion of work, and GCSEs taken
  • The celebration of achievement


Funding


A grant from the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has provided funding over the last three years to work towards developing a model of education for looked after children.

We can now provide education support directly in schools and for local authorities for any children at risk of exclusion.
