Leon

Leon was born in France of African parents. At 12 years old, he and his two brothers (aged 4 and 3) came to England with their mother. The mother became heavily dependant on class A drugs and Leon soon became the carer for his two siblings as well as his mother.

For a period of time, all three children were sent back to France to Young Personlive with their grandparents. This arrangement did not last as the grandparents were unable to cope, so Leon and his siblings were sent back to the UK and taken into care.

Leon came to us at 14 years after his foster placement broke down. His brothers, now six and five, were due to be adopted and Leon was left alone. He was extremely affected by the trauma he had been through; he became disruptive in school and was excluded.

Leon is a very bright and capable young man and has been with us for two years now. He was supported to re-engage in education and this year took five GCSEs. He has grown into a happy and kind young man with clear ambitions in life. For the past year he has been teaching two children to speak French and has just enrolled in College to study Art and Design.
