Education Service
Providing support, teaching & advocacy to improve education, employment and training outcomes for children and young people in need or looked after
Children and young people in care often struggle with their education as the difficulties in their home circumstances may make learning the last thing on their mind. As children fall behind in their studies, they often start to truant leading to even greater difficulties keeping up with their peers.
When children come into care, they may experience multiple moves from one foster family or care setting to another, compounding the problem.
Shaftesbury Education has delivered consistent improvements in the education and achievements of looked after children in residential settings for over a decade. Awarded a three year grant by the DCSF to develop a national model, the service now extends to children outside the care environment, working in any setting with young people who are struggling with their learning.
